The Nova Corp was an essential aspect of the Guardians of the Galaxy film. Making up the galactic police force and explorers of Xandar, the Nova Corp made a huge sacrifice in their numbers during the events of the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. This event calls back to some of the history of the Nova Corp, in that the militia has been completely destroyed multiple times in the Marvel universe. One of the more famous Nova members is the original Centurion Nova Prime: Richard Rider. His figure was actually the first Nova figure from the original Guardians of the Galaxy line. With the release of Wave 2, Hasbro decided to sculpt Kid Nova aka Sam Alexander. Brief history about Sam Alexander, he was the son to a very infamous and secret agent of the Nova Corp. The hallmark black Nova helmet belonged to his father, Jesse Alexander. Sam donned the helmet when he intersected Rocket Raccoon and Gamora as they looked for Sam’s missing father. The two Guardians trained Sam how to use the black Nova helmet and he eventually became Earth’s Nova guardian. The great thing about this design is that they utilized the same costume that Sam wears in the new Nova comics. The design took inspiration from the original Nova prime, in the triple circular chest plate and gold/black color scheme. The new additions to design really stream-line the suit. They got rid of the shoulder pads and updated the helmet’s Nova symbol. They also gave Nova gauntlets versus just forearm protectors like they did for Richard Rider. Nova lacks any additional weapons for the reason that he doesn’t really use any. He does however come with a very high ranking Nova Corp member: Phlish. Phlish is a member of the Supernovas, a black-ops team of Nova Corp that carry out special missions. Phlish has a short run as a character so not much is known about him other than the fact that he looks like a starfish with a Nova helmet. Unlike the other figures in this line, the box design shows off the Nova helmet instead of the Ravager symbol that marks the remainder of this wave. Sam Alexander is a character that will probably never make it to the Guardians of the Galaxy film. Fans are happy enough to have the Nova Corp involved in the films but true Nova fanatics are expecting one of the major players, Richard Rider, to make it’s introduction into the cinematic universe. Richard Rider is another major character in the fight against Thanos so it will be interesting to see if Marvel decides to incorporate his story-line in the future Infinity Wars film.
